Notes are written records of Miles and Waylon's thoughts and feelings while trying to understand their current situation. The camcorder must be out and recording in order to obtain notes. New notes are shown to be added when a camcorder icon flashes in the bottom right corner of the screen as a short sound cue plays in the background.

There are a total of 49 notes, 31 in Outlast and 18 in Outlast: Whistleblower. In Outlast 2, they're replaced with recordings.
